Childukhtaron

Childukhtaron valley is situated in the Muminabad district in Khatlon Oblast in the south of Tajikistan. The name of the valley, Childukhtaron, is drawn from the 40 rocks that stand in the valley - one next to other - looking like young women. There is a legend that 40 beautiful young women were living in peace in the valley. As the legend goes, after some time, some bad people attacked the valley with the intention of capturing the young women. The young women prayed to God to rescue them – but the only way to be rescued was for God to turn them all into stone. Since that time the valley has been known as Childukhtaron. This area is considered to be one of the most beautiful and holy places in this region. The local community decorates the valley with flowers and pieces of textiles. The valley has a beautiful nature and there are lots of useful plants and fruit trees that grow there. The nuts from this area differ from the nuts of other areas of Tajikistan, the pears are especially delicious, and the local variety of apples has a special taste like no others in the country.
